From the early, medieval compositions of composer, writer, scientist Hildegard of Bingen, to the extraordinary works of 2017’s all female Pulitzer prize finalists, Ashley Fure, Kate Super, and winner Du Yun, to 2019’s Tony Award’s Best Musical Hadestown by Anaïs Mitchell, to 2021’s Pulitzer prize winner, Tania León’s piece Stride, and to the Tony Award’s 2023 Best Musical Kimberly Akimbo composed by Jeanine Tesori, women’s contributions to music have resonated throughout history. The MTAC Conejo Valley’s 8th Annual Women Composers Festival celebrates the contributions of women composers.
Our Women Composers Festival opens with a Teachers’ Showcase Recital on Sunday, August 25, 2024,
3- 4:30 PM at the Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, 1 Avenida de los Arboles, Thousand Oaks, CA. “Notes for Votes,” a recital presented by our MTAC Conejo Valley teacher members, commemorates Women’s Equality Day and the certification of the 19th Amendment, which gave women the right to vote. “Notes for Votes” will feature compositions by Elfrida Andrée, Mel Bonis, Hiroko Yanai, and Libby Larsen.
